Canton's boys
tennis team kept rolling through its early-fall schedule Thursday when
it posted a 6-3 victory over Walled Lake Northern.
The Chiefs iced the win when four of their five doubles tandems
out-stroked the Knights.
The match was all even after the singles matches as Northern's
David Criss defeated Ryan Hanz, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 and the Knights' Nick
Majie edged Riley Hoernschemeyer, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 at No. 2.
Canton's Adam Payne bounced back to defeated Alex Gaucher, 6-3,
6-0, at No. 3, and the Chiefs' No. 4 player, Vaun Bandri, followed suit
by sweeping Jared Grodman, 6-2, 6-4.
The only doubles setback for the Chiefs came at No. 1 where
Northern's Nic Hite and T.J. Tyos slipped by Jimmy LaFontaine and Steve
Lee in a thriller, 3-6, 7-5, 6-1.
Canton rolled in the final four doubles matches: No. 2 Andrew
Tidwell and Rocky Willette rocked Ryan Hockstand and Joe Romain, 6-3,
7-5; No. 3 Jordan Anderson and Krstian Matasic defeated Tyler Abce and
Austin Bommarito, 7-6(5), 6-0; No. 4 Austin Payne and Kartik ousted Joe
Fox and Adam Ranke, 6-2, 6-2; and Alan Halim and Luke Freeman knocked
off Alex Champe and Noah Soble, 6-1, 6-3.
