Canton's boys
tennis team improved its record to 2-1 Wednesday afternoon with a
convincing 9-0 triumph over Westland John Glenn.
Chief junior No. 1 singles player Ryan Hanz sparked the victory
when he won his match handily over Zach Ernat, 6-1, 6-0.
Canton's three other singles players followed the lead of Hanz:
No. 2 man Riley Hoernschemeyer blanked Nik Hubbard, 6-0, 6-0; No. 3
player Adam Payne routed Tommy Ruark, 6-1, 6-1; and No. 4 Varun Bandri
made short work of Andrew McGrath, 6-1, 6-2.
The winners' No. 1 doubles tandem of Jimmy LaFontaine and Steve
Leehandled Khari Stargell and Mitch Dean, 6-2, 6-4. Jordan Anderson and
Kristian Matasic swept Nick Stone and Jacob Toalmina, 6-3, 6-3, while
the No. 3 duo of Kartik Bhatt and Austin Payne toyed manhandled Shane
Wiechert and Wayne Woodard, 6-1, 6-2.
Canton's No. 4 doubles team of Andrew Tidwell and Rocky Willette
dusted Conner Monroe and Joey Wakeford, 6-1, 6-0.
Canton's No. 5 unit of Luke Freeman and Ashwin Kumar ousted Ian
Villaroman and Josh Wakeford, 6-1, 6-1.
In exhibition play, Canton's Jason Bohl and Alan Halim defeated
Maverick Longuski and Kyle Wagner, 6-1, 6-3.
