Steelers' 'No quit' attitude on display Saturday against Westland Comets

The Plymouth-Canton Steelers varsity football team lost a hard-fought game against the Westland Comets Saturday, 34-27. The Steelers received offensive-line play from Andy Day, Blaine Golles and Joshua Branch.

The defense was bolstered by the effort of Connor Stella, while Derek Young and Nick March both played tough and turned in key plays for the defense.

JV SMOTHERS COMETS
The Steelers' junior-varsity contingent came from behind to knock off the Comets, 32-12. Cameron Stella led the Steelers' offense with two touchdowns and four extra-point kicks. The offensive line was sparked by the play of Christopher Vos, who opened huge holes for the black-and-gold's running backs.

Jake Sydlowski had a long run, taking the ball into the red zone, before eventually finding paydirt. Defensively, Jack Pardington played tough whit a quarterback sack. Justin Vitez had a critical recovery on a Steeler kick-off. Dakota Lynn had an outstanding game in the defensive backfield.

FRESHMEN SHOOT DOWN COMETS
The Steelers' freshmen thoroughly dominated the Comets, winning 40-6, thanks in large part to stellar play at quarterback from Ryan Young. Vincent VanDerRoest blew open huge holes at left tackle while Aaron Brazleton had a great day running the ball. Vinny Convertino led the Steeler defense with several solid tackles and Jared Golles was instrumental at safety, making key tackles in the backfield.

JUNIOR FRESHMEN SHINE
The junior freshmen Steelers conducted a blocking clinic on Saturday. Playing in their first home game of the season, the Steelers -- utilizing a ball-control offense -- tallied 12 first downs and three scores. Logan Walkley found paydirt for the third consecutive game due in large part to the excellent helmet-rattling downfield blocks of Benjamin Bennett and Seth Troszak. Cameron Miller shined for the Steelers on an explosive 3-yard first-down run and Zachary Kubacki reeled in a perfectly thrown 15-yard reception.

Defensively, the hard-hitting Steelers limited the Comets to only two first downs. Darien Moore had a standout game, collection one of two interceptions. Ian Gozdor led the linebacking corps with smothering hits that kept the Comets grounded.
