The
Plymouth-Canton Steelers varsity squad turned in another strong
performance Sunday as they upended host Brighton, 33-22.
Stephen Cook had a huge game for the winners while Justin
Sydlowski anchored the team's offensive line that helped create big
plays for Steeler running backs. Trent Schneider also provided tough
offensive-line play.
Defensively, Zachary Griffin played well, as did Udayveer Singh
and Madueno Jamssens.
JV FALLS
The Steelers' junior-varsity contingent dropped a hard-fought
29-6 decision to the Bulldogs. Strong play from Joey Paz bolstered the
Steelers' offensive line while Thomas Nelson III recovered a Brighton
fumble.
Other bright spots came from Braden Abundis, who registered a
long run, and Jacob McKinnon, who had a pair of productive carries.
Defensively, Devin Cameron worked hard, as did Malcolm Jones,
who slowed down the Bulldogs' running game.
FRESHMEN ROLL
The Steelers freshmen won handily, 32-6, as two-way player Kyle
Burnett turned in an outstanding effort. Scott Gregor opened up huge
holes, allowing Mason Phillips to have a great day running the ball.
Danny Lanava recovered a fumble and made several huge tackles. Joey
Ahearn anchored the defensive line.
JUNIOR
FRESHMEN QUIET 'DOGS
The old adage "Defense Wins Ballgames" applied to the Steelers'
junior freshmen unit Sunday as they shutout the host Bulldogs. Seth
Troszak transformed into the "Incredible Hulk" and wrecked havoc on
both the Bulldogs' offensive line and backfield. His excellent
penetration resulted in several tackles for losses, along with
bone-crunching hits that announced the arrival of a defensive dynamo
for years to come.
The Steelers' ends and corners provided disciplined,
stay-at-home blanket containment. Leading the way were Ben Wright,
Cameron Miller and Jackson King. As a unit, the Steel Curtain allowed
only three first downs.
Offensively, Jason Perko reeled in a 30-yard first-down
reception. His fingertip grab demonstrated focus, balance and excellent
route execution. For the second consecutive game, Logan Walkley found
his way into the end zone, scoring on a 42-yard scamper in the first
quarter.
