The
Plymouth-Canton Steelers varsity football team dropped an exciting
39-26 decision to Farmington Sunday afternoon at Farmington High School.
Offensive-line play was strong thanks to solid efforts from
Lucas Callahan, Matt Ramey and Hussein Shahine. Mike White paced the
defensive effort with dynamic play from the safety position. Antonio
Avant and Wesley Weber both played well against a tough Rocket
offensive line.
JV Steelers' nip Rockets
The JV Steelers edged the Rockets, 12-8. P-C quarterback Greg
"Gooch" Williams engineered the Steelers' offense and scored both
touchdowns. Cory Burnett's quick feet kept the Rockets' defense on its
toes while Jacob Marsh ran the ball hard and made a key kick-off
recovery for the Steelers.
Alex Nicholson shined at defensive end, tearing up both the
Rockets' passing and running games. Ben Smyth and Nathan Gozdor both
played strong on the defensive line, plugging up the Rockets' running
game.
Freshmen keep hot streak going
The freshmen Steelers remained unbeaten with a 41-18 triumph
over the Rockets. The offense was led by Rashawn Allen, who
scored a pair of touchdowns. Evan Good did an excellent job blocking
and anchoring the 'gold' offensive line, while Ben Kandah opened huge
holes for the Steelers' running backs.
The defense was led by Ryan Bogdanski, who played well at
defensive end, and Marco McKenzie, who blocked a punt that eventually
led to a Steelers' TD. Matthew Poet rounded out strong defensive play
with a fumble recovery that led to a Steeler touchdown.
Junior freshmen play Rockets touch
The junior freshmen seized momentum of their game mid-way
through the fourth quarter with a series of defensive stops, only to
have it slip away in the closing seconds of the contest.
Offensively, the Steelers started the game with an impressive
13-play, five-first-down drive that devoured 11 minutes, resulting in a
Nicholas Prevo touchdown. Led by the physical play of center Dean Kaye,
the offensive line cleared the way for the Steelers' hard-running
backs.
In their next possession, the Steelers wore down the Rockets
with a 10-play drive that was orchestrated by quarterback Jake Cain.
Defensively, the Steelers were led by the strong play of James
McCarthy and Alexander Terpevich.
