PCS Penguins hold on to beat Regina; improve to 4-3 in league

Dec. 17, 2009, 5:50 p.m.

After building a seemingly insurmountable 4-1 lead during the first 35 minutes of Tuesday night's game against visiting Harper Woods Regina, the Plymouth-Canton-Salem Penguins survived a ferocious Regina rally to record an impressive 4-3 victory in front of a rambunctious home crowd at the Arctic Edge Ice Arena.

The triumph improved the Penguins' record to 4-3.

The home girls led 2-0 after one period thanks to net-finders by Rebecca Majszak and Jordyn Moore. Kara Bongiovanni assisted on Majszak's goal while Shauna Siebert picked up a helper on Moore's lamp-lighter.

The Penguins extended their advantage to 3-0 with 6:16 left in the middle period when Moore tallied an unassisted goal.

Regina's showed it wasn't done when Kristen Taylor scored off an assist from Danielle Melrow with 2:06 remaining in the second frame.

The Penguins regained their three-goal cushion to 4-1 2:27 into the third period when Marissa Sullivan scored thanks to assists from Majszak and Siebert.

Regina rebounded with a pair of goals 50 seconds apart by Melrow and Taylor, but that was as close as they managed to get thanks to some clutch goal-tending down the stretch by PCS freshman Cortny McAdoo.
