Canton Lions go 2-1 against Comets

The Canton Lions varsity football team lost a division battle against the Westland Comets Sunday, 34-12. Falling behind by several scores, the Lions battled back with touchdown runs from Kenny Arnold and James Hall to get to within 26-12. A late-third quarter interception deep in Comets' territory stopped a potential score that would have pulled the Lions to within one TD.

Ben Cockrum and Robert Daoud also contributed in the backfield. Contributing to strong offensive-line play for the Lions were Nathan Dzwonkas, Manmeet Singh, John Schumaker, Dykiece Pruitt and Austin Fisher. Defensive standouts were Devon Wade, Val Steeple, Anthony Kenney and James Hall, who had several sacks.

JV UNIT TRIUMPHANT
The Lions JV contingent earned a hard-fought Homecoming win, 20-10, to improve to 3-1. Jake Stropes, Jakob Wickens and Austin Jackson helped the offensive line open up gaping holes for Freddie McGhee, Chucky Turfe and Daniel Kilgore. Both McGhee and Turfe had touchdowns.

The defense only allowed one touchdown late in the game thanks to great efforts by Ty Jasman, Damarcus Kaigler, Cordell Gibson IV and Matthew Wayne. The defense came up with key turnovers and fourth-down stops the entire afternoon.

FRESHMEN ROLL OVER COMETS
The Lions freshmen team throttled the Comets, 39-12. They were led by two receiving TD's from Evan Voyles to Myles Beverly and touchdown runs by Noah Brown, Victor Abraham and Jason Arnold. The line opened large holes all day led by the blocking of Spencer Brown, David Mason and Wesley Askew

The defense had a strong day led by key tackles form Mason Lamarand, Adam Pitcole, Jack Underwood, Ryan Cassidy, Devin Farmer, Adam Abdallah and a long interception return for a touchdown by Woody See.

JUNIOR FRESHMEN BLANK COMETS
The junior freshmen registered their third straight shutout thanks to the hard-hitting efforts of Kyle Hurley, Nathan Hunt, Preston Parana, Gary Hicks and David Bowen. The offense had a strong effort led by the blocking of Ethan Locke, Michael Lindeman, Justin Crouch, Calvin Brown, Jr., and Kameron Arnold.
