Canton Lions freshmen fall, but junior varsity triumphs


  On Sunday at the PCEP varsity football field, the Canton Lions freshmen football team dropped a 27-6 decision to the Lake Area Hawks.
   The Lions' defense kept them in the game until the end of the third quarter with strong defensive play by Jason Arnold, Trevor LaPere, Alan Farmer and Spencer Brown.
   The Lions' offense was led by the strong quarterback play of Evan Voyles, a long touchdown run by Jake Miller, and solid blocking by Ethan Balogh, Connor Flanigan and Julius Crouch.
JUNIOR VARSITY WINS
  On a crisp, late-August afternoon, the Canotn Lions JV football team won its season opener, 26-13, over the Lake Area Hawks. The offense was lead by Charles Turfe, who scored three touchdowns and Daniel Kilgore, who added another.
  The defensive tone was set on the first defensive play from scrimmage when Jackson Austin sacked the Hawks' quarterback.
  The defense was ball-hawking all day with five interceptions and one fumble recovery. Cordell Gibson IV, Robert Guajardo, Allante Wheeler and Everett Czarnota all had interceptions for the Lions.
