Wayne Memorial got "sub"-marined by Canton Tuesday night in a
KLAA South Division volleyball showdown.
Utilizing the strong play of several substitutes, the Chiefs
rolled to a 25-5, 25-9, 25-8 victory to improve to 13-4 overall and 4-1
in the South. Canton remains one game behind front-runner Livonia
Churchill, which defeated Plymouth Tuesday night.
"I was very pleased with how our team played and kept up the
intensity until the end," said Canton coach Mary Kryska. "Everyone got
a lot of playing time and the team chemistry was stellar even with all
the changes.
"Everyone came off the bench with a lot of confidence and the
passion to win."
Jordan Kielty led Canton with nine kills. Freshman Erica
denBoer, who was recently inserted into the Chiefs' starting line-up,
registered five kills and Allison Trapp had four.
All three Canton setters played well. Traci Breitmeyer was
credited with eight assists, Jackie Waite notched six assists and
Kielty had five.
"Our serving was more consistent than it has been lately withe
minimal errors and 17 aces," said Kryska.
Torry denBoer came off the bench to notch four solo blocks.
Defensive standouts were Lauren Macuga (eight digs) and Laura Fcasni
(seven digs).
