Wayne Memorial got "sub"-marined by Canton Tuesday night in a KLAA South Division volleyball showdown.

Utilizing the strong play of several substitutes, the Chiefs rolled to a 25-5, 25-9, 25-8 victory to improve to 13-4 overall and 4-1 in the South. Canton remains one game behind front-runner Livonia Churchill, which defeated Plymouth Tuesday night.

"I was very pleased with how our team played and kept up the intensity until the end," said Canton coach Mary Kryska. "Everyone got a lot of playing time and the team chemistry was stellar even with all the changes.

"Everyone came off the bench with a lot of confidence and the passion to win."

Jordan Kielty led Canton with nine kills. Freshman Erica denBoer, who was recently inserted into the Chiefs' starting line-up, registered five kills and Allison Trapp had four.

All three Canton setters played well. Traci Breitmeyer was credited with eight assists, Jackie Waite notched six assists and Kielty had five.

"Our serving was more consistent than it has been lately withe minimal errors and 17 aces," said Kryska.

Torry denBoer came off the bench to notch four solo blocks. Defensive standouts were Lauren Macuga (eight digs) and Laura Fcasni (seven digs).
