The
Plymouth-Canton Steelers varsity football team dropped a 31-7 decision
to Ypsilanti Saturday, Oct. 17, in a game played at Central Middle
School in downtown Plymouth.
Offensive line play was strong due to the solid efforts from
players like Derek Young and Bilal Murtaza. Rodney Allen, Jr., also
opened up huge holes for the Steeler running backs. Jalen Bryant led
the Steelers' defensive effort by disrupting the Braves' passing game,
while Connor Stella gave his all on the line. Hussein Shahine elevated
his play on the defensive side of the ball with key stops at middle
linebacker.
The Steelers' JV squad defeated the Braves, 23-8. The defense
came ready to play, starting with a fumble recovery on the opening
kickoff by Kevin Justice. Teammates Greg Williams and Dakota Lynn both
registered key interceptions to stop the Braves in their tracks.
The first of three Steelers' three TD's came from a beautiful
run by Chris Bryant. The next two touchdowns were scored by tight ends
Nick Lanava, who hauled in a long scoring pass, and Jacob Stephan, who
recovered a fumble in the end zone.
The Steelers' freshmen contingent outplayed the Braves, 27-14,
to improve to 7-0. Marc Bryant, Chase Cunningham and Calvin Vos all did
a fantastic job of blocking for the Steelers' "Gold" offensive line.
Ryan Young had a stellar day on both sides of the ball. He ran for a
touchdown, completed a touchdown pass and had several nice tackles on
defense. Ryan Bogdanski also had a standout day from his defensive end
position.
