Salem girls, Plymouth boys cross country teams shine in KLAA openers


  Northville's girls cross country team got "Tripp"-ed up, 20-39, by Salem Tuesday afternoon in the KLAA Central Division opening meet for both teams.
  Junior Victoria Tripp was the fastest runner on the trails of Willow Metropark, placing first in 20:33. Teammate Jordyn Moore also stepped up, placing second in 20:41.
  Rocks Autumn Burin (20:51) and Kelly Kerwin (20:59) helped seal the victory with impressive third- and fourth-place showings, respectively.
  Kara Booms was the final Salem scorer, placing eighth in 21:23.
  Shannon Flynn (ninth in 21:39) and Ade Jepperson (10th in 21:39) had good afternoons as well.
  Northville was led by Amy Draybuch, who was third in 20:50.
  The Rocks return to action Friday when they compete in the Spartan Invitational at Michigan State University. Salem's next dual meet is Tuesday against Livonia Stevenson at Cass Benton Park.
WILDCAT BOYS DOMINATE
  Derek Gielarowski was the man of the hour for Plymouth's boys cross country team in the Wildcats' 15-40 victory over Westland John Glenn Tuesday afternoon in a dual meet held at Cass Benton Park.
  Gielarowski placed first in 18:12 as the 'Cats took the top five spots. Also pointing for the sweeping victors were Stephen Balaze (18:54), Jimmy Maciag (18:59), Garrett Neumann (19:03) and Justin Heck (19:07).
  Ruban Maya was the top Rocket, placing sixth in 19:11.
  "This was a good chance for our young guys to get some experience," said Plymouth coach Jon Mikosz.
  The Wildcats have yet to lose a division dual meet since the format was re-instituted in 2008.
