Plymouth girls golf team improves to 4-0 with 38-shot victory over rival Canton

  BY ED WRIGHT

A thumbnail sketch of the 2009 season for the Plymouth girls golf team unfolded on the seventh hole of the Fox Hills Classic Fox golf course Monday afternoon.
It was on that hole that freshman Kelsey Murphy split the fairway with a drive that rested just 47 yards from the middle of the green.
Murphy nimbly lofted the ensuing chip shot to within 14 feet of the cup. She missed the birdie putt, but tapped in for a solid par.
Murphy's stellar performance -- and similar efforts from her teammates -- has been repeated numerous times early this season as the Wildcats are now 4-0 following a 181-219 triumph over their cross-campus rival Canton.
Along with Murphy, Chloe Marentic, Sarah Thompson, Mandy Kirsch, Maggie Furlong and LeAnn O'Shaughnessy played for the Wildcats.
Canton's results could not be gathered Monday night.
