Salem bowlers fall to WLW

Dec. 14, 2009, 9:30 p.m.

The Salem varsity boys lost 18-12 against Walled Lake Western in a cross-over match. The boys lost their two Baker's games, but came on strong to win their two match-play games.

Kyle Newcomb started off the game with a nice 227, followed by Shaun Schmidt with an awesome 278 and Ryan Clark, our anchor, held up his end with a 257.

Mid-stream in the first game we substituted David Nikkila in and he saved the day with a  nice 283. The second game Nikkila again came through with a nice 207 and anchor Clark came back with a superb 277. Ryan had  a USBC award series of 534.

The Salem varsity girls pretty much dupliced the boys, losing both their Baker games but then coming back strong to win their match play. They still lost, however, 18-12.

Senior Kristin Peltz started out the match with with a nice 210 game and freshman Kristin Lark ins followed up with her second game of a nice 183.

The JV boys set the house on fire. Freshman Kevin Williams started out the day with a nice 212, followed by Joe Minsky with a 244 and anchor Tyler Foley with a 225. The second match Foley followed his 225 with a better 236 and Nate Kowalewski with a 201 -- the JV won 22-8 against Walled Lake Western. Overall, it was a great day.
