An 11-7
season-opening victory over Chaminade Julian (OH) on April 8
highlighted the Salem High School baseball team's spring-break journey
to Cincinnati last week.
Senior hurler Chris Kordick was brilliant in the win, limiting
Chaminade to one run and three hits in five innings of work. Sophomores
Scott Theisen and Matt Constance pitched well in relief for the Rocks.
Kordick also ripped three hits and knocked in two runs. Also
shining at the plate were senior catcher Nick Leventis (two hits,
inside-the-park home run) and senior first baseman Tate Theisen, who
knocked in three runs.
The Rocks dropped a 7-1 decision to Chaminade in the nightcap of
the double-header. Mike Weingrot went the first three innings on the
mound and suffered the loss. Senior righty Eric Lorber was strong in
relief, yielding just four hits and two runs over the final four
innings.
Kordick registered the Rocks' lone RBI.
On April 9, the Rocks lost, 8-1, to Milford (OH). Korey Streck
started and took the loss while Kordick brought home the only Salem
run. The Rocks were victimized by six unearned runs.
