Plymouth Canton Unified figure
skating team opens season


Feb. 1, 2010, 9:40 p.m.

  The Plymouth Canton Unified girls figure skating team has showed flashes of brilliance in the its first two competitions of the 2009-10 season.

  The team, which is made up of students from all three PCEP high schools, is divided into three sub teams: A, B and C. Each team competes in three elements: moves, jumps and spins.

  The team practices at the Modano Ice Arena in Westland  following an ice-time dispute with the Plymouth Cultural Center, the squad's former practice home.

  The first District 3 high school skating competition was held at the Hartland Ice Arena on Dec. 13. Following are the results for the three PCEP teams:

A Team:
Moves - 7th place;
Jumps - 2nd place; and
Spins - 9th place.

B Team:
Moves - 5th place;
Jumps - 4th place; and
Spins - 8th place.

C Team:
Moves - 4th place;
Jumps - 5th place; and
Spins - 7th place.

  The final standings, which are compiled from a combined score of the three elements from eatch team, were:

Team A - 7th place;
Team B - 6th place (tie with Farmington Hills Mercy); and
Team C - 6th place.

  The second District 3 competition was held at the Farmington Ice Arena on Jan. 18. Following are the results for the three PCEP teams:

A Team:
Moves -2nd place;
Jumps - 4th place; and
Spins - 10th place.

B Team:
Moves - 2nd place;
Jumps - 6th place; and
Spins - 1st place.

C Team:
Moves - 4th place;
Jumps - 4th place; and
Spins - 5th place.

  The final standings were:

Team A - Tied for 4th with Ann Arbor Huron;
Team B - 2nd place; and
Team C - 6th place.
