Canton senior pitcher Kevin Delapaz couldn't have thrown much
better Monday afternoon against Northville.
Unfortunately, the Chiefs' defense couldn't have played much
worse behind Delapaz, thus, the net result: a 3-2 loss to the Mustangs.
"Kevin pitched great," said Canton coach Mark Blomshield, whose
team slipped to 11-3. "We just need to clean the defense up."
Delapaz struck out seven and yielded just three hits in his six
innings on the mound. The Chiefs committed a season-high four errors,
including two miscues in the first that led to three unearned
Northville runs.
Canton threatened late, advancing the potential tying run to
third base with out out, but the Chiefs couldn't bring him home.
The Chiefs managed six hits, including an RBI single by Andrew
Tidwell and a double from Bernabie Salinas, who scored one of the
Chiefs' runs.
Canton will host Plymouth in a Wednesday double-header. The
opening pitch is set for 4 p.m.
