If you've ever tried to get
your car rolling at a green light with a thick layer of ice under your
tires, you'll be able to relate to Canton's hockey team Wednesday night.
The Chiefs struggled to get going against Livonia Churchill and
never did quite dig out of an early 3-0 hole in the Chargers' 6-3
triumph.
The loss dropped Canton to 3-6-1.
"We were down 3-0 after the first eight minutes," Canton coach
Jeremy Majszak lamented. "We just got out of the gate slow. It
was a team effort."
But the Chiefs never said die, fighting back to within 3-2
at the end of the first period thanks to goals from AJ Rosales
(assisted by Kyle Korte) and Garrett Bryden, his first lamp-lighter of
the year, assisted by Rosales.
"Then we played really well coming out of the first
intermission; the guys really stepped it up," said Majszak.
After Churchill netted a goal to pad its lead to 4-2,
Canton countered with a Taylor Baker goal to narrow the deficit to one.
"Taylor Baker played a very good game," said Majszak. "He really
stepped up for us tonight."
"In the third period we really went at them, but we came
out at the wrong end of the stick."
Sophomore goalie Ryan Bazner stopped 23 of 29 shots.
The Chiefs return to action Saturday in Midland, which carries
an 8-1-0 record.
